Castiglione Tinella’s scenic-literary park fills with colors and poems The town of Castiglione Tinella, in the province of Cuneo, opens its “Verses in the Vineyard” scenic-literary park, thus becoming “the town of written vines.” We immediately fell in love with it and couldn’t help but tell you about it. Let’s find out together what it’s all about.Verses in the Vineyard: poetry dedicated to the landThere is a need for poetry, and now you can experience it on your doorstep, in the open air, in the new panoramic-literary park “Verses in the Vineyard.” It is a unique setting (and for this reason the idea will be protected by a certified registration), which is also intended to be a promotional action for the territory of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, already a UNESCO World Heritage Site and recognized as one of the most beautiful places in the world.
The vineyard, a structure splendidly widespread in this territory, is undoubtedly a poetic element in the broadest sense, exuding poetry like every shoot its sap: its very history is poetry, which, just like the shoot, is rooted in the earth and toil but also carries a passion, the vision that sketches the characters of beauty and aesthetics, as well as those of need.
The vineyard becomes the body of a poetic literary form by hosting verse texts dedicated to the work of winemakers and this land, transforming into a sheet of paper. Each row of vines becomes the line that houses a verse with its going to and fro, so the Castiglionese slopes become pages and offer verses to those who admire them. The site of the “written vineyard” thus becomes an unprecedented, physical, tangible literary park. From the ridges, viewpoints and along the paths of the four nature trails that run through the municipality’s territory, one can unveil, or search for as in the game, 6 written vines, each hosting a 5-verse poetic text dedicated to these hills, to the daily work of the farmers.
The written vineyards are quite distant from each other, facing different visibility, so to follow the narrative one has to traverse this beautiful territory, glimpse the giant white letters as one travels along the roads or approach them seeking more intimate contact and better visibility.
Our advice is to visit this park on your Vespa, amidst the colors of autumn shyly beginning to light up and the most evocative poems you can find.Verses in the Vineyard: in the land of MoscatoThanks to the collaboration of the vineyard owners, texts are permanently set up among the Moscato grape clusters, so they can be admired all year round.
Well yes, perhaps not everyone knows that it is in Castiglione Tinella that the vineyards used for the production of the Moscato grape, known for its quality, are located. Generations of farmers have clung to these hills to cultivate this vine, which is now present on 90 percent of the municipal agricultural area; recognition by UNESCO has rewarded their work, the splendor and history of the wine-growing landscape set up on these lands.
Castiglione Tinella, with 700 hectares of vineyards, provides about 7 million bottles of wine for glasses around the world each harvest. The recognized quality of the grapes and the finished product is distinguished by the particular fertility of the soil, which is combined with the altitude and climate of the place. Among the products obtained: Moscato d’Asti DOCG, Asti Spumante DOCG, Moscato Secco, Asti Secco DOCG, Moscato Passito and Moscato grappa.Verses in the Vineyard: the authors of the texts The poems and texts you will find are by Lorenzo Dulevant, taken from the book“I Canti di Castiglione” (Edizioni L’arciere, 1985), where the author recounts this village and the life of its people during the years of World War II, and by Bruno Penna, from the book“Langhe, il canto della terra” (Pieraldo Editore, 2004), a volume that collects 69 songs in 5 free verse dedicated to the Langhe.
Over 500 square meters of writing, visible up to 450 meters away along nature trails and from ridges: words appear through the installation of large white letters fixed on hail nets that “embrace” the body of the row.
In addition, the texts can also be read in English through QR-coded signs placed in places that provide visibility.
