A romantic road dedicated to couples, relaxation and the discovery of new stories and landscapes through a nature trail featuring 11 stops. A physical and emotional journey.
At each stage we get in touch with nature, thanks to the trails available in the area, and with the history of places and people, thanks to the informative content that tells the story of their origins.
The viewpoints of the individual stages are set up to indulge in some relaxation, contemplating nature, reading the information panels to discover the origins of the country and its peculiarities or reading the “leaves” of the talking trees. Places where for each stage a specific theme is dedicated, to offer moments of pause and observation. The eleven viewpoints invite us to give ourselves some time to ourselves, a solitary reading of a book, a chat with friends or partner.
In addition, the presence of thetalking tree, gives one of the most poetic aspects of the set-up, which entrusts its leaves to tell the story of the area through literary excerpts, and the “romantic bench” for resting, designed for comfortable seating for couples.
The bench is made of metal that has been treated with an annealing process and machined into eyelets to infuse lightness into the artifact. On hilltops or in the shadows of ancient towers, one can find informative Quinte: hints and tips for continuing the journey by providing details about the landscape and major tourist attractions.
A series of panels recall the sinuous shape of the Langhe and Roero hills suggesting an interpretation of the area according to the assigned theme. Tasting in wineries, landscape, villages and typical food complete this magical journey. What are the themes and stages of the romantic roadVEZZAD’ALBA
Village thousands of years old since the feudal period inhabited by the Roero family until the 1600s. The famous Rocche: pointed hills, deep gorges and sheer walls define the panorama of the Roero, to the left of the Tanaro River. “Truffles, Food and Flavors” is the theme with which the first stage of this romantic itinerary opens, beginning at the Church of San Bernardino. The precious “fruit” of the land of the Langhe: the truffle, which has now entered the collective imagination thanks in part to the likes of Gioacchino Rossini (for him it was “the Mozart of mushrooms”), Alfred Hitchcock (attracted by the mystery surrounding truffles, so much so that he wanted to make a film about them) and Marilyn Monroe (she wrote to Giacomo Morra, the “king of truffles,” that she had “never tasted anything more tasty and exciting”).
MAGLIANO ALFIERI
The legacy of feudal times is glaring and gives the eye fairy-tale visions from Roman antiquity to feudal times, with great families in the area. The “reign” of the Alfieri family who, between 1660 and 1680, had the mighty castle built that dominates the town, in whose rooms stayed the young Vittorio, destined to become one of Italy’s greatest tragic poets. Therefore, the dedicated theme is “Castles of Langa and Roero.”
NEIVE
Medieval layout, red-roofed houses characterize Neive. One can admire the beautiful hills full of traditions. Fruit of work and passion have made Langhe and Roero one of the world’s “paradises” of viticulture. The theme of this third stage is mainly about the territory, “A Multitude of Wines and Vineyards.” A land to be savored in the intense aromas of its wines – Barolo, Barbaresco, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Arneis, Moscato – with the changing colors that the vineyards give us at each change of season.
TREISO
In autumn on the hills of Treiso, Neive and Barbaresco, Nebbiolo da Barbaresco, from which the famous Barbaresco wine is harvested. The theme of this fourth stage is dedicated to the “Fenoglian Rocks of Resistance” during World War II, also known as the “Rocks of the Seven Brothers.” Stories of simple men and women, told by Beppe Fenoglio, witness and narrator of a universal pain, who loved to stop and observe this countryside, calling Treiso “a country to live in peace.”
TREZZO TINELLA
It holds one of the most spectacular views in the entire area. From the Boscasso one has the impression of being on the “roof of the world,” admiring the mighty mountain ranges between the Aosta Valley and Liguria. A real “Journey between Alps and Hills.”
BENEVELLO
On this stage we enter the upper Langa area with a panorama covered with precious forests. The theme precisely is “The Langa Forest” closely related to every moment of the farmers’ lives, from birth to death.
SINIO
Land of Dolcetto and Barolo among hills and vineyards. Thanks to “Our Sinio Theater,” ancient stories and traditions related to a rural past are revived. The theme “History of Langa: the theater of the hills.”
CISSONE
Cissone defined as hard and difficult land. A confrontation is created between man and the land. The Langhe has been tended and modified according to human will by centuries of hard work. Over the generations, the people of the Langhe have forged a very deep relationship with their land, which will be recounted during this stage, “Man and the Land of Langhe”
MURAZZANO
It houses one of the last defensive towers in the area as high as 30 meters. Small town also called “shield and key of Piedmont” because of its strategic location. “Traditions of the Langa”: in this stage you can admire and enter into cohesion with the traditions of the area from its earliest origins.
MOMBARCARO
The main theme is “the sea” defined as the “Peak of the Langhe” from which one can see the peaks of the Maritime Alps to the perennial snows of Mount Rosa.
Mombarcaro derives its name from the Latin mons (mountain) and barcari (barbarized, from boats), the mountain from which sailing ships and large boats could be seen. In fact, on clear days, it is possible to see the shimmering of the waves
CAMERANA
On this last stage, nature further provides great excitement. The theme “Hundreds of orchids and other flowers” is based on the presence of the Belbo Springs Nature Reserve, one of the most important naturalistic points of interest. Hundreds of orchids and as many as 43 species are cultivated in this wonderful area. Approximately half of those in Italy.Night Excursions on the Romantic RoadAlso on the Romantic Road there are night excursions, walks to discover and appreciate the hills of the area in Night version. Emotional tour not only for Valentine’s Day but also all year round!
