Getting on a Vespa as much as everything will start againThis last period we have been away from our loved ones, and this fully includes our Vespa. We dreamed of being able to enjoy the first spring days in his company, but unfortunately, this year, due to the lockdown, it was not possible.
Little by little we return to normalcy, however, made up of new awareness and some old, healthy habits. These include, above all, a ride on our Vespa. So we have come up with 5 things to do on a Vespa when we can get back in the saddle and resume visiting the area.Rediscover the pleasure of traveling, in search of green in the cityTraveling yes, but responsibly, discovering or rediscovering what our area offers . Perhaps in search of the green areas of our city, Turin. Among these, two destinations within Vespa’s reach cannot be missed.
In our list of five things to do on a Vespa, we suggest a trip to Superga, on the hillside of Turin, a perfect destination to ride our scooter to. The curves through the woods will give you unmissable glimpses of the city, and once you arrive at the Basilica’s forecourt you can enjoy a splendid panoramic view of Turin and the mountains that frame the landscape.
We recommend that you enter the
Basilica of Superga
where you can take advantage of the visit to climb Juvarra’s Baroque dome, which with its 131 steps allows you to reach the outdoor balcony from which you can enjoy an even more impressive view of the city and the Alpine arc that embraces Turin.
One can also pay homage to the Grande Torino at Superga. In fact, this is where the memorial plaque of the victims of the May 4, 1949 tragedy is located. On the hill of Superga, on a rainy and dark day, the plane carrying the players of Torino, one of the most beloved soccer teams of all time, crashed at the foot of the Basilica.
Back in the city, another very easy destination to reach by Vespa is the
Valentino Park
, one of Turin’s green lungs. As you walk by, you can greet the two lamp posts in love and sit with them on the bench. The park is also famous for its Medieval Village all to discover. This hamlet is one of the city’s most popular destinations. On the banks of the Po River, ideal for a visit where you can relive the magic of centuries past, admiring churches and other late medieval-style buildings.Visit the colorful Barolo chapel, in the LangheOur advice about five things to do on a Vespa takes us to the Langhe, where a
small, colorful church
unique and special: the Barolo Chapel. A little gem, easy to reach by Vespa, nestled among Piedmont’s most renowned vineyards. This little church, whose real name is Chapel of SS. Madonna delle Grazie is located in the Brunate vineyard in La Morra, and was built in 1914 as a shelter for workers in the surrounding vineyards, who took refuge here in bad weather.
The church was never consecrated, first dilapidated and abandoned, then renovated by the Ceretto family in the late 1990s and today has become a landmark for tourists and photography enthusiasts. A curious and fascinating place in the Langhe, whose renovation was entrusted to artists Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett.
The two professionals transformed the building into a true work of art in a contemporary style, through plays of bright colors and warm interior decorations.Photographing mysterious castles in the Langhe and RoeroA timeless charm, a mysterious air, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Castles located between Langhe and Roero are destinations to mark on your list of places to see in the coming months. Numerous and mysterious, here are some names among those you cannot miss. Barolo Castle, in the center of the village, houses WiMu, the Wine Museum , inside.
The manor’s cellars house the Enoteca del Barolo in which some of the best local labels can be tasted. Among the most fascinating castles in the Langhe, mark also the Castle of Novello, that of Serralunga d’Alba and the Cavour Castle, which dominates the village of Grinzane.
We also recommend Guarene Castle in Roero, home to a famous chain of luxury hotels, but open for tours. Guarene is one of the most famous and visited municipalities in the Roero. In fact, from here one can reach several points of historical and food and wine interest such as the many local wineries.
Bring your camera and make sure you have your phone charged because there will be no shortage of breathtaking views along the way. And we know you won’t want to miss this opportunity!Taste a good glass of wineOf the things we’ve missed the most in recent months is the desire to have a good glass of wine, beyond the walls of one’s own home, that is. So why not take advantage of it by taking a Vespa ride, perhaps right through the hills of the area between Langhe and Roero. Numerous vineyards and wine producers will be waiting for you, ready to tell you about the history and grape processing typical of the area you decide to visit.
To learn fascinating stories and of course taste the finished product. Perhaps not everyone knows that Langhe and Roero have as many as five regional wine shops: the Enoteca delBarolo, the Enoteca del Roero, the Enoteca del Barbaresco, theEnoteca del Moscato, and theEnoteca Piemontese in Grinzane Cavour. Not to mention so many wineries that you won’t struggle to discover while riding your Vespa friend, who will take you on a ride through one of Italy’s most fascinating areas. For a tasting or more, always responsibly.Rediscover the pleasures of the table, from the Langhe to TurinThe best wines of Piedmont, paired with traditional dishes. Little by little, first with “relatives” and then also with friends we will return to enjoy our favorite dishes. Among the specialties of traditional Piedmontese cuisine, we look forward to a steaming plate of tajarin or agnolotti del plin or vitello tonnato with company. And even then the level of mouth watering becomes important. If you are continuing your Vespa trip in the hills between Langhe and Roero you will find trattorias and inns where you can perhaps taste a braised beef with Barolo or the typical Russian salad, which is a must on every menu.
Typical venues can also be found in the very center of Turin, all of which can be conveniently reached by Vespa. You can start with an aperitif at sunset sitting in a dehor al in Piazza Vittorio and then move on to dinners in restaurants in the nightlife areas, the Quadrilatero Romano, San Salvario or the Aurora district. The choice is very wide and the cuisine offered varies from traditional to ethnic to starred specialties.
As soon as possible we will be back in the saddle to have these experiences. This, however, was our list of five things to do on a Vespa. Can you tell us yours, too?
